Venice

22.1.21

My first vacation since Christmas and my first real vacation since starting residency. We were headed to Croatia for my birthday, and we decided to make a stop in Venice after spending the night in Milan. That might sound fancy, but I don't want to confuse anyone. We got off the freeway, parked the car behind a factory next to a nice field, and slept until the sun came up.

The next day we took the bridge to Venice. We drove straight on to that little island city.

No traffic. No stress. NO PEOPLE.

I've never been before, but I imagine it to be a very different experience in non-corona times. We were able to enjoy the perfect summer day, walking up and down the empty streets. We had lunch sitting with our feet dipped into the ocean, looking over a scene straight out of a movie. We ate gelato and wandered, amazed by the people who call this city home. In the end, it seemed more like it was the locals, their cats, and us—a once in a lifetime experience.
