Symi
After the touristic chaos of Lindos, this place was a dream. A small island with just one perfect harbor town covered in old colorful houses. It was the Greece I wanted to see, away from the social media madness.
For most people, this was the classic day trip from one of the neighboring islands. For us, it was three hot days of exploring the coastline, strolling the harbor, and feeling very at home in our hillside apartment.

Rhodos
This year I spent my birthday with my favorite person on a greek island, eating tzatziki and olives, swimming in perfect Mediterranean water, and feeding the stray cats.
I don't have much to wish for except that things keep moving in this direction. So incredibly happy for the people in my life, the job I love, and the insane work-life balance I get even with my chosen career (thanks, Germany). And also extra love for my incredibly good-looking guy who somehow loves animals more than I do and is always ready to find that perfect spot to have a drink and watch the sun go down.
Life is good.

Kos
Island number 1 - Kos.
That first morning I woke up with an ear infection, so things didn't exactly go as planned. I dodged the wind and tried to keep my head out of the water while he thankfully took advantage of both.

We made the best of the situation, and one of my favorite moments of those first few days was our drive up to Zia. It is higher up in the surprisingly green hills of this very dry island. We thought we were driving to a small taverna, but it ended up being a full-blown tourist attraction. There was a town up there. Of course, we did our thing, hiked above the tourists, and had our tzatziki, olives, and wine with the goats catching the perfect sunset.

Wanderers
The day before we left Crete, we decided we needed to see some tourist attractions. We did see Crete's only lake, but other than that our map failed us. We drove up to the top of some mountain to see an old "ruin" that would be a lovely church. Some pigs were running around this church that was probably smaller than our garage back home.
We also tried to find a cave, it was our second cave search. We didn't end up finding, but Magda did get to test her driving skills. She proved herself, and we managed to get off this island with our car in one piece.

Journey to Balos
Balos is on the most western peninsula of Crete and is at its very tip. Getting there was one of the craziest experiences of my life, but seeing the destination made it all worth it. After a 15-minute drive down a dirt road on a cliff toward the sea, I decided I was too afraid to keep driving. We got out, filled up the backpack, and started walking those last five kilometers. Not the most leisurely walk, and thankfully an old greek man stopped his pickup truck and let us hop in the back. He drove us to the end of the road passing the goats running wild, the little churches built in the middle of mountains, and spectacular views. Once we got to the top, he pointed toward the path and said, "20 minutes." Breathtaking is a decent way to describe it.
