Red rocks trip day one.
Salt Lake City → Arches National Park.
One of my favorite things about taking people to Southern Utah for the first time is watching them take it all in.
There is nothing like it. This place is different, and you can't even comprehend the vastness until you make it there yourself.
It all started with the perfect road trip playlist and even better company.
I have been looking forward to driving around, blasting music, and taking in the insane landscapes from the moment I knew he was flying in for a visit.
We caught the perfect late afternoon, with the warmest light throughout the park. All that magic seemed to disappear with the sun though.
We didn't have a place to camp yet, and the sun had just set. Cruising up the Colorado River looking for an open campsite in the dark was the last thing I had planned, four campgrounds later we found a spot. Shortly after we figured out we only had one sleeping mat... WOOO. The anxiety was rising.
I maybe didn't feel it in that moment, but things turned out just fine.
The lesson of the trip (and the lesson of my life), I need to learn to chill, and not everything has to be perfect. Going with the flow is sometimes the last place my head wants to be.
The worst of it just turned out to be a very small bump in an amazing week.
